Shadow work can be considered both psychological and spiritual, given that the term was first coined by renowned psychiatrist Carl Jung, and is also talked about by spiritual teachers such as Eckhart Tolle. ![]() Better to recognize, love and accept it, than bury it.Īny repression of ourselves can lead to mental illness, physical ailments, addictions and/or lack of self esteem. The reason why this is so unhealthy is that your shadow is not separate from you. Shadow work is the process of reintegrating all of the “non desirable” parts of ourselves back into our psyche. These parts are basically a collection of memories, traumas or behaviors that are stored outside of our conscious awareness, and these memories can change our perception of reality. The shadow is the part or parts of yourself that you have rejected or feel so ashamed of, that when these parts show up, you do all you can to hide, ignore or deny them. This blog post will break it all down and hopefully inspire you to try it. There are wonderful, growth-seeking reasons for doing shadow work, but one of the best ones is rarely talked about: manifestation. As an increased number of people choose to work on their personal and spiritual growth, the term shadow work is being mentioned more and more in the zeitgeist.
